Lighting

I decided to research into lighting for the various scenes throughout our music video.
My group will aim to incorporate the research into our music video as this will be beneficial in creating the correct atmosphere and scenery for the music video.

This particular scene involves the main character selling her body for money (prostitution) so that she can use the money for drugs. However there will be not intimate interaction between the two characters in this scene. Therefore as a group the scenery has to be accurately executed to allow the audience to assume that previously the two characters were sexually intimate.

The whole video will be in black and white so the lighting will already be highlighted through the black and white filter. However, we would like the scene to be rather dim to make the audience feel forlorn for the main actress.

To make sure our characters are seen we decided, to put a lamp with a controllable light dimmer to adjust the lighting on the characters faces so that their upper bodies can be in focus but their lower bodies and the rest of the room can be dark.

In addition the lighting on the bookshelf can be adjusted to the groups suitable preference and the natural light coming in from the window can be covered by the curtains to appear as if it is night time if we decide to film during the day. However we will try not to film during the day or on a very bright day as my research shows that this can become a challenge affecting the outcome of the video negatively.

Research Into Location

webcam

DANSON PARK

The location, size and open landscape of Danson Park is what attracted my group to choose this as our location for one of the outdoor scenes. However, we initially decided to use Greenwich park as it it also has a lot of greenery that would be useful in our second scene. Greenwich Park, however, proved to be further than the group was willing to travel so we collectively agreed to use Danson as it similarly had the qualities of Greenwich Park.

We went to this location to begin our shooting early in day and these are a few pictures we took during our shoot.

ANGEL TUBE / DARTFORD RAILWAY STATION

Angel Train station is one of the major train stations that my group decided to film at as it featured in the main video that correlated with ours, Ed Sheeran A Team. Angel Tube Station is a very busy station and this will be of use as one of our scenes requires a lot of interaction between the public and our actress. However if the station is too busy this could be a hindrance to our work level.

Because of this my group decided on the alternative of Dartford Railway Station. Dartford is a major interchange station in the North Kent region of the Southeastern network. It is also much closer and easier for us to all access occasionally so we decided to use Dartford as a trial. However the pictures above display Dartford Bridge which is outside of the station which is not very busy which may be both a reward and a risk as the bridge allows various interesting shots, however if there is not a substantial amount of the public present our work may suffer.

NIAMH'S BEDROOM

This is one of the locations for 2 of the main scenes in our video. This location will include significant parts of our video such as the prostitution scene and the suicide scene.

Research Into Types Of Shots

Leona Lewis-Bleeding Love

The song Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis is not directly the theme my group is going for. However, there are elements such as insecurities and suicide included in Bleeding Love which directly relate and link to my groups music video. This is my main reason for analysing this video.

The shots above are ones that I have picked out to include in the music video as they highlight the pain and deep depression evoked from the actresses. There are a variety of shots which I aim to achieve with my group.

For example the shot of the actresses hand turning on the tap does not fully present her intentions as it may appear that she wants to take a bath. However, the next couple of shots present that the actresses aim is to drown herself as she still has her clothes on. This indicates that she is not going for a bath as it is irregular to bath with clothes on.

Furthermore, the close up of the actress in the bath showing her head slowly dipping in resulting her entire body to be underwater accentuates her intentions to drown and how her situation has taken control of her emotion and she can not take it anymore. This creates an extremely forlorn mood to the video and reiterates our theme and message behind our video.

Lastly this picture presents the pain of the individual which is what my group aspires to achieve. This shot in particular interests me as it blurs the dark background out but focuses on the crying eyes of the actress which emphasizes her depression and sorrow. In addition I appreciate how well the actresses makeup is put together to make it appear as if she is genuinely crying so it is believeable to the audience.

This is exactly what my group is aiming to display in our music video to ensure the audience is understanding of the individuals insecurities and perhaps even relate to an extent.

Preparation

BATH & BEDROOM SCENE

Initial Preparation For The Bathroom Scene

This shot is of our actress applying a dark, black eyeliner under her eyelids. This was done intentionally to make the actress appear as if she has been crying therefore causing her makeup to smudge.

This is the first attempt after applying the eyeliner and as a group we decided that the eyeliner was not effective enough so the actress began to apply more on the top.

BATH & BEDROOM

This is the scene after Niamh has engaged in a shameful act.

Whilst we was filming within my bedroom, we wanted to be sure of how to control the lighting and what the outcome would look like on the camera as a result of us adjusting the lighting.

And here is what the outcome looked like which we thought was good enough considering it was daylight outside.  However, as our group has decided to edit our music video into black and white, we discovered that the shot looked too dark as you could barely see my face within the shot.
As the room was too dark we decided to open the bedroom door to let in some natural light and this is how the bedroom now looked.

When I had to film within the bed we then realised that there was not enough light to show the expressions on my face and the tears running down my face and so we decided to use a bedside lamp which was perfect as it allowed us to show my facial emotions whilst acting

Here is a video of us controlling the light within the bedroom scene:

Resolving Problems

There have not been many problems within my group as we are capable of discussing any issues that arise. However we have had to agree on filming times as we all have different schedules
