This scene presents our actress (Niamh) upset about the fact that she had to sleep with a man for money. She turns from the man in a depressed state as she is ashamed of what she has done. This scene leads to her suicide as it is one of the lowest points in her life and she feels she cannot continue this way any longer.

Praticising Makeup

 

During our free periods, we decided to practise and become more familiar with the specific look our actress would display, with the help of makeup, so that we would not spend too much time unsure how to present her. We decided to make our actress look as pale as possible (as if most of her youth and life has been taken away / sucked out of her).

 

We also wanted to highlight her emotions through her eyes so we circled her eyes a dark pencil eyeliner and smudged it around so it didn't look too neat.   

 

Looking back at this practise shoot, the shots taken present how the make up was ineffective because the eyeliner was not heavy enough and therefore did not capture the deep emotion in the actresses eyes.

 

 

Research Into Types of Shots

CLOSE UP SHOTS:

The first shot above is my imitation of the tap shot to hint to the audience the intentions of the actress. This shot will be shown and cut to a memory of the actress, then more water will be shown and the scene will be split up and cut through the various stages of the suicide.
For example when she turns on the tap, CUT, when she sits on the side of the bath, CUT, when she steps one foot in the bath, CUT, when she sits in the bath, CUT.. ect.

 The first shot shows similarites with my picture however the lighting on the shot of Rhianna is more effective as it presents a hopeless atmosphere.

My group intends to adopt this feature by either dying the water a dark colour using food colouring or putting a dark towel in the water before filming this particular shot to darken the water and create a more effective tone

These two shots are different but similar as the Pink 'Perfect' video has the girl without tights on ready to commit suicide whereas our actress wore tights.

I still feel that she should wear tights when we reshoot this scene, however the tights can be ripped with holes and the lighting will be less bright to create a more ominous tone.



This shot was inspired from our general research which is shown on the right-hand-side. We however, didn't aim to achieve the same effect shown (in terms of colour) in our research because it juxtaposed with the black and white lighting or colour that we were going for throughout our music video. I think this shot is very effective and is the type of effect we were aiming to achieve.

Here is my groups attempt to capture a similar shot to our research which is on the right. After shooting this ourselves, I realised that it did not have the same effect as our research in terms of the colouring which makes it a lot dingy. In order to achieve this effect I believe we will have to use some type of colour-like food colouring and simply place it in the water so the water looks more dingy.

This is another shot that we adopted following our research- it however has not been converted into black and white. I feel it was a a successful shot otherwise.

I feel in terms of our research this shot is the most successful shot my group and I were able to carry out. We certainly achieved the same effect as our research in term of colour, I just feel that I protagonist needs to look less pretty and more filthy and ugly in order for the shot to correlate with the character and be more effective.

How I Prepared My Actress' Makeup

This is a collection of the make up preparation that we did for the bathroom scene. We wanted to show that she had been crying and been rather emotional after being intimate with a man for money.




These picture presents a member of my group applying more make up underneath the actresses eyes after she apllied dark eyeshadow and mascara.
















This picture shows the result of applying dark eyeshadow to our characters eyes. We wanted to make it appear as if she had been crying aand in deep regret leaving her hopeless and consequently leading her to commit suicide. I think this picture portrays that however when we redo this scene I will be applying a heavier amount above and below her eyes to ensure the shade of black is highlighted once the black and white filter has been placed on the film.



These pictures are where we reapplied the make up after our actress had been in the water a few times. As the water had washed off some of the make up we needed to ensure that continuity was met and that it was the actresses first attempt to commit suicide.

Working As A Team

These are a collection of the preparation that took place in our first attempt with the adjusting the lighting in our bathroom scene.

This is the window of the bathroom before we put the towels over to decrease the amount of light that entered. we also closed the window as we needed to make sure our actress was not to cold as this would disrupt her performance.

However I have realised that on the next shoot with the bathroom scene we will either need to do it on a day where it is not so bright or later in the day/ evening as the difference after the towels were put on the windows was not as significant as intended. In addition if as a group we choose to shoot during the day we will need black big towels to cover a wider circumference and to absorb as much light as possible.

Planning

These four images are of our preperation before the bath scene of our music video. As the bathroom appeared rather inviting we had to remove certain items to create a dingy effect to remove any aspect of hope for the individual.
